About Sam
I grew up on the coast in the northern suburbs of Perth, WA playing football in the winter and body surfing waves in the summer. It was a far cry from teaching horsemanship. It all started when my family and I went holidaying at a farm stay where they had horses. From that point I have always needed to play with, and ride the horses.
After graduating Agricultural College I began as a farm hand all over the state and also tried to learn more about horses from whoever would care to share something about them.
In 2003 I saw a Parelli Natural Horsemanship demonstration given by a former Parelli Professional and was blown away. That same week I found an old audio tape of Pat’s in ‘Horseland’ and bought it. As, I was driving around for the next couple of days that’s all I played.
It just made so much sense to do things naturally; to do things from the horses point of view.
“I hope that you’re ready for your journey and I look forward to coming and helping you with the ingredients you need to become succesful with horses”.
I started the program immediately and in-between jobs I would spend my time trying to develop my horsemanship through the home study program and learning from Parelli instructors visiting WA. I would have about 3 weeks off before each seasonal job started and in that time I would just play with my horses. I played and rode all day and I couldn’t get enough.
In 2007 I headed for the Parelli Campus in Florida for a 6 week course and through some persistence scored a position as a Ranch Hand for the next 12 months. In the summer of 2008 I was a student in a 10 week long University Module which included a 3 week ‘Colt Start’ led by 5-Star Australian Instructor Rob McAuliffe.
At the beginning of 2009 I decided to start my our business and I then spent 4 months at the Australian centre in Sydney, were I assisted teaching a 4 week course and continued on in helping make improvements to the Centre; and then in June of that same year I returned to America as an Intern in the Mastery Program.
At the start of 2010 I became a Protégé and received a 3rd Star as an Instructor and a rating as a Parelli Licensed Horse Development Specialist.
I was also given the opportunity to teach the ‘Fast Track’ and ‘Foundation of Horsemanship’ courses’ in the UK, Germany and here in Australia.
Since then I have been based in Western Australia on my facility just outside of Bridgetown; in the small township of Yornup, where I start and develop horses, I offer courses to students who wish to immerse themselves in their horsemanship.
In November on 2015 I received my 4th Star as a Parelli Professional Instructor in front of a large home crowd at the PerthLive event. It was a great experience.
As it stands I spend the Summers at home in Yornup with my Colt Start Program, and then during the year the clinics’ take me all over Australia and to England for just over 1 month of the year.
After spending the last 17 years studying this program, I have a strong understanding of being natural with horses and it’s importance, not only for the horses sake but for myself also.
I also make the time to travel to further my education by riding with educators of most disciplines; currently I am undertaking in the Mike Bridges – A California Vaquero Style Horseman; Horsemanship Series which is held in Oregon twice per year. I believe that we are all, always learning, always fixing, always improving.
In the last 12 months I have ventured back into the competitive world; to measure the effectiveness of a natural foundation and it has really solidified the value of understanding horse psychology and the power of patterns.
With this, I hope that you’re ready for your journey and I look forward to coming & helping you with the ingredients you need to become more successful with horses.
